Yesterday at our ‘Sunday Live’ worship we focussed on the creation of about 150 Christingles. In the midst of our singing, reading and praying, the tables were laden with all the fixings for the Christingles. These were provided thanks to the good offices of Carol Wilkinson and the kind people at Morrisons.
Soon the table were laden with finished Christingles. Malcolm creatively led our prayers around the idea of the Christingle. Those who were not able to come for the actual Crib and Christingle service were invited to take home a Christingle in order to feel a part of the occasion.
Finally when everything was finished the church was laid out to receive our guests for the evening service. Slowly but surely the crowds gathered to hear again the story of Christmas. We began with a huge game of pass the parcel which enabled us tell the story and people the crib.
When the crib scene was full to the brim with the family, shepherds, wise men and the villagers who came to see what all the fuss was about. Then we discovered the secret of the Christingle and then as the lights dimmed and candles flickered, we sang ‘Away in a Manger’ and there was just a moment of awe and wonder.
